Realism tattoo in Mallorca

Portraits, animals and nature with shading, depth and a finish that lasts. Miquel designs every realism piece from scratch at our studio in central Palma.

What is realism tattooing?

Realism aims to make a tattoo look like a photograph or a highly detailed drawing on the skin. It's built with shading, soft gradients, highlights and texture, with almost no outlines. If you're looking for a realism tattoo in Mallorca, the key is finding an artist who masters depth and contrast, because that's what makes the piece look great today and still read clearly many years from now. It's also one of the most demanding styles, so experience really shows.

It can be done in black and grey or in colour. Black and grey is the classic choice: it gives depth and ages beautifully. Colour allows more vivid pieces, such as animals, flowers or nature scenes, but needs well cared for skin and regular sun protection. Either way, the reference image matters a lot: the better your starting photo, with good light and resolution, the better the final tattoo. We'll tell you if your photo works or if a better one is needed.

Realism needs space. A tiny portrait loses detail over time as the ink settles and small nuances blend together, so we usually recommend medium or large sizes on the forearm, upper arm, calf, thigh or back. Getting tattooed on holiday? Plan ahead: a fresh tattoo needs to stay out of the sun, the sea and the pool while it heals, so it's best done at the start of your trip or near the end.

Realism is Miquel's speciality: shading, depth and a long-lasting finish. He works from your reference, adjusts the size to the placement so no detail gets lost, and tells you honestly what to expect from the result and the healing. We don't do catalogue designs: every portrait or animal is drawn just for you. If the piece is large, we plan the sessions with you so they fit your schedule or your stay on the island.

Our studio is in the centre of Palma, on Carrer de Pere Dezcallar i Net, with a classic tattoo shop feel and tattooing since 2014. Realism tattoo FAQs

What people ask us most before getting a realism piece.

How much does a realism tattoo cost?

It depends on the size, placement, level of detail and number of sessions. A small portrait is a very different job from a full sleeve. The easiest way is to message us on WhatsApp with your reference, the placement and a rough size, and we'll send you a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your idea.

How long does it take and does it hurt?

A medium piece can often be done in one session, while larger ones are usually split into several. Realism involves a lot of shading, so come rested, fed and hydrated. Pain depends on the area and the person; ribs and feet tend to hurt more than the forearm. If you're only here for a short stay, tell us and we'll plan around it.

How do I look after it on holiday?

Wash gently with water and mild soap, apply a thin layer of cream a few times a day and don't scratch or pick at it. Keep it out of the sun, the sea, pools and saunas until it's healed, which means planning your beach days around it. Afterwards, always use high SPF. If you have any health concerns, check with your doctor.

Do realism tattoos age badly?

Not if they're planned well. The key is the right size and good contrast between light and dark areas, so the image still reads once the ink settles. That's why we don't recommend tiny portraits. With a well thought out design and regular sun protection, a realism tattoo holds up very well over the years.
